Our Purple Hybrid Passion Fruit is considered an AAAA+ fresh eating variety, super sweet & aromatic, self pollinating and known as a super fast grower.
Cold hardy subtropical and easily withstands frosts and the occasional freeze.
Can be grown in a 3 Gallon Container.
The flowers are large, showy, and extremely aromatic. They are also excellent butterfly attractants.
The pulp is used extensively in fruit juice drinks like Hawaiian Punch, and it is often used in baked desserts as well.
The Purple Hybrid Passion Fruit typically get to be about the size of a goose egg.
The fruit mix well in alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks and are also great in salads.
Passion Hybrid Fruit usually cost USD$3 – 4 a piece and a vine can produce 100’s of fruit making it an excellent value.
Grows 30 feet in a season. Medium to full sun.
Performs best in cooler weather, however will produce in hot climates.
PASSION FRUIT PURPLE VINE SOIL REQUIREMENTS & PLANTING INSTRUCTIONS
First, mix together the following:
60 percent potting soil;
20 percent peat moss;
20 percent coarse sand and a handful of perlite
Then, place this mixture in a pots, beds or garden and plant your purple passion fruit.
Proper site preparation ensures years of growth and once established they will not require weed control. When planting purple passion fruit in the landscape plant at 4′ apart on a sturdy trellis.
Soil Ph should be around 6.0-7.0 This mild feeder loves an organic fertilizer N-P-K ratio or 5-5-5 or lower.
LIGHT CONDITIONS
When making a site selection keep your plant in an area that has medium or full light. This variety of purple passion fruit is considered hardy in cool temperature and sub-tropical climates.
If using drip irrigation allow soil to dry slightly between watering. Do not over water. Purple passion fruit plants are moderately drought tolerant.
PESTS & DISEASES
Pests or diseases are few and far between.
The vine produces elaborate white and purple flowers in the spring and fall followed by fruit. Blooms are white.
Purple passion fruit are also referred to as Passifloraceae, passion vine, passionfruit and passion fruit. Additionally, Passifloraceae grow from shoots, seeds and tissue culture. There are several different varieties of purple passion fruit.
